San Buenaventura Friary, San Francisco, CA

Established in 1970, this friary has a community involved in various ministries. Friars here work as chaplains at local hospitals and also in direct service to the poor. The National Shrine of St. Francis is also served out of this friary. San Buenaventura also serves as a place for hospitality for friars and others visiting the San Francisco Bay Area.

MULTI-MINISTRY FRIARIES

St. Francis called his brothers to serve those in need, especially the poor. Some friars do this is by serving as chaplains in various institutions. Living in our friaries, they work as hospital chaplains in the San Francisco Bay Area, and in prison ministry in the Bay Area and at the Federal Penitentiary at Lompoc, California.
